What does the Fischer & Wieser 6666 offer?

The Fischer & Wieser 6666 is a cozy and romantic retreat for two with it's queen size bed and claw-foot tub. There is a second bathroom and two pull-down bunks in the dining area, if your weekend does include a few young children.
There is small living room with cable TV, a local phone, radio and limited library books. While there is no dining car fore or aft of the 6666, at the far end of the car, you will find a quaint stainless steel kitchen, complete with a coffee maker, fridge and microwave, but no stove or oven. A $25 gift certificate to Das Peach Haus, Fischer & Wieser's country store, will be supplied for you to pick up some tasty goodies for breakfast or snacks.

How did the 6666 get it's name?

This train car has operated under several owners and names, yet is most famously known for the 6666 brand bestowed upon it by owner and cattleman S. Burke Burnett, who named it after his Four Sixes Ranch in Wichita County, Texas. The 6666 story is told that Burnett won a big pot with a hand of four sixes, and that he adopted that brand to celebrate his victory. The less romantic, but more accurate tale is that Burnett bought a herd of some 100 cattle from a Frank Crowley of Denton County in 1871, and elected to keep the 6666 brand which Crowley had already impressed on the stock.

In time, Burnett's holdings grew until he became one of the cattle kings of the Southwest. He bought this "sleeping car" so he could more comfortably travel between his residence in Fort Worth and his ranch which extended into Kentucky.

Who owns the car now?

What are your requirements for leasing the car?

If you are planning a visit to Fredericksburg on a weekend, a two-night stay (Friday and Saturday) is required.

Just as it was a century ago, the 6666 Pullman Train Car is situated on railroad tracks - no longer in use, of course. We feel this makes for a very charming experience, but it does require some rather large steps up to the platform. If young children do accompany you, they will need assistance climbing aboard.

Smoking is not allowed inside or outside the train car.

What is check-out time?
